Durable mixers and blenders don’t always need to be pricey.

But if you want to get a good price on quality equipment, you need to do your research. These questions can help you get ready.

1. How long has the manufacturer been in business?

Experience is crucial when selecting an equipment provider. Be cautious of newer companies that promise big results but lack the insights and scalability that come with experience.

2. Do I have enough information to accurately compare quotes?

Remember not to let assumptions prevent you from asking for quotes from sales representatives. You should do your due diligence and get quotes from enough reputable manufacturers to make sure you’re comparing quotes accurately and objectively.

3. Is installation, training or maintenance included in the price?

Inquire about post-sales support including installation, commissioning, training and maintenance services, and whether these are included in the price. Do they offer free installation supervision for extra savings and increased peace of mind? Do they maintain a large inventory and offer fast lead times on spare parts to help avoid downtime emergencies?

4. Does the manufacturer primarily offer base models or are they more experienced with custom builds?

Does it seem like the manufacturer is promoting a specific SKU or are they genuinely trying to understand your specific process needs? Opting for a manufacturer who can customize a solution to you application versus a “one-size-fits-all approach” can save you a great deal of stress.

5. Can you test your material in the equipment prior to purchase?

Ask if they can validate the machine’s performance and dependability with a material test before you buy for added reassurance. That way, you’ll know if you’re investing in a machine that can deliver cost savings for your specific application.

6. What manufacturing standards and certifications does the manufacturer comply with?

Common standards and certifications include Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP), FDA, USDA, Baking Industry Sanitation Standards Committee (BISSC) and other international standards that certify a product has met international health, safety and environmental requirements.

7. What is the length and coverage of the manufacturer’s warranty?

Does the manufacturer allow you to extend your warranty beyond a standard 12-month period? Does the warranty include only parts and/or service? Understanding what other value-adds are offered with your equipment purchase is crucial.

Not all material processing equipment providers are the same. That’s why taking the time to assess manufacturing standards, brand reputation and current pricing is key, according to Seth Vance, CEO of Advanced Material Processing.

“There are a lot of material processing equipment manufacturers out there who say they can offer a competitive price on premium equipment,” Vance said. “But with recent operational improvements to streamline our production processes and better utilize resources, Kason’s customers are often pleasantly surprised to learn how competitively priced we are on our high-performing and built-to-last equipment.”
